Our Work
We aim to reduce mental health and educational disparities in Washington DC by bringing innovative best practices within the school walls of our city. Through a unique combination of consultation, student and family mental health services, and classroom coaching we create change on both individual and school-wide levels to help schools and students reach their full potential.
HOW WE DO THIS
Develop and refine transformational
mental health solutions.
Deploy effective solutions
within schools.
Our Call To Action
Current Situation
The mental health needs of DC students are outweighing the existing developmental expertise and mental health resources in schools. The most prepared schools and teachers are not meeting their full potential due to the overwhelming mental health and developmental needs of the student population.
Many students face stress and trauma that impact their learning.
School systems are not equipped to mitigate these challenges.
Teachers experience secondary trauma and burnout.
Co-Located Mental Health Care
School- and community-based counseling and medication management provide meaningful support but do not prevent or fully address the growing challenge.
Some high needs students receive support out of class but often feel marginalized and to blame.
Schools receive periodic updates on progress but do not regularly collaborate to create environmental change for the student.
Teachers receive little to no information that helps them best support the student’s needs in the classroom.
Our Solution
Following best practices in both educational and child psychology, we promote a collaborative, systems-based approach to mental well-being that builds capacity across the school setting.
Students benefit from prevention, early intervention, and responsive best practices in their school environment.
School leaders receive regular support to enhance school practices for all students.
Teachers experience increased efficacy, feel supported, and more effectively manage their students.
